BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol that can be used to distribute data including music, software, movies, and more across the internet. BitTorrent has increasingly become popular among the younger student generation all across the globe. This protocol allows for rapid file sharing of various file types. All that it needs to run is a torrent, client, and a tracker.

With Bittorrent, No information is stored on a central server, but as with P2P technology, every user acts as a server. This application does not have a ‘search’ function unlike other P2P programs such as Limewire and Ares. Users can download “.torrent” files and load them through an application of their choice.

BitTorrent uses trackers to direct filesharing applications to users downloading the same file in order for the download to happen. The tracker assists in connecting clients to each other so that downloads can be facilitated by clients on their own.

Downloading with Bittorrent is very rewarding due to fast download speeds. It allows you to simply click on the download link and choose the folder to save the file in. When it comes to movies and music, the protocol is the most convenient medium to download these files. Considering the pace at which the protocol is growing, it is heading to become the largest P2P file sharing community.
