Often times, the well known name brand is not the best product. Sometimes it’s not even the ballpark. Such is the case with the Ares P2P filesharing software. Ares Galaxy was the origional version, first distributed back in 2002. It soon became popular and spawned many imitators, some good, some bad. Over the years Ares Galaxy became established as the best, and no real contenders came close. But things change fast in the digital world. Several newer, more modern versions of Ares have sprung up in the past few years with advanced features, and better customer support (Ares Galaxy has no customer support). Ares Vista and Ares Ultra are the best of the modern versions. Meanwhile, the old standby Ares Galaxy has remained the same. Some of the new versions to stay away from are Ares Gold and Ares Destiny, both of which bundle Ares with adware. One thing they all have in common is that users of the different versions, including Ares Galaxy, all work on the same network, so users looking to download music have access to the millions of songs that are shared between users.

As with most things in life, things aren’t always what they seem. This is especially true of AresDestiny, a nice little version of Ares that used to be free, and worked quite well. Unfortunately, the website was sold and the new owners are no longer distributing the free AresDestiny any more. They now provide a link to a version of Ares called Ares Ultra, which is not free. To make matters worse, after customers pay for the download, they find it doesn’t even connect most of the time!AresVista does not have this problem making the initial connection to the Ares network. Ares is the popular P2P filesharing software. There doesn’t seem to be much confusion about the spelling for those from the United States or Great Britain. Why? Simple: the Iron Cactus is a fantastic Mexican restaurant that not only provides delicious Mexican food, but also has what is possibly the largest selection of different tequilas anywhere in the Country. How’s that for a reason to visit?

When you combine this wonder of drinking entertainment with knowledgeable and friendly staff and a great little restaurant with admirable atmosphere, then there’s no doubt that you’re onto a winner. Even those of you who don’t usually get on with Mexican food should consider a quick visit just for that rooftop bar (yes, okay, and that tequila). While you’re here I’d try the fish taco and the tortilla soup, just to make sure you’ve covered all your bases… these dishes are winning hearty acclaim in the local press and there is a very good reason for this.

The Iron Cactus in Austin, Texas, is most definitely one of the most innovative and pleasant of any Mexican restaurant I have been to in recent times. Top marks.

The music industry is going through some tough times at the moment. This downturn of fortunes has not been helped by the insurgence of free music downloads available, formerly though channels such as torrents and Ares and, latterly, through more legitimate sources such as we7 and various providers. Free music downloads is a fact of life in the music industry and it is interesting to see some artists, some studios and some producers embracing the fact while others simply hang onto bygone days when their business model worked.

One shining example of leveraging online user base for money and for massive media coverage was Radiohead’s In Rainbows, offered to the public for download at a price which they picked. Whether this was a success, financially or otherwise, is not known, but it was the first serious attempt to use free music downloads for the good of those who owned the rights. Ares has chat rooms that members can join and host. Ares allows users to share information around the globe. Ares allows users to share the contents of each others’ “shared folders.” Please use a little caution when placing your files. The wrong files placed in your shared folder could lead to identity theft.
